When I first encountered problems on the job with discrimination,
very little hard data existed to support my belief that women were often paid less than men for doing the exact same work.
The same is often true for minorities. Today, there is statistical proof of this fact. It comes in the way of
a study actually commissioned by the United States government.
The study is titled "Behind the Pay Gap". It show
that women one year out of college earn 80% of what men earn. Even more dire is that 10 years after college, women
earn 69% of what men earn. These statistics are for doing the exact same job in the same profession and was stuided
over dozens of professions. The study controlled for, and thus factored out, women who did part time wrok or took maternity
leave.
